The fast bowler Expected to Feature a Major Role in Ashes Series

Australian cricket captain

The pace bowler has claimed 309 Test scalps in 71 Test matches with an average of 22.10.

The Australian selection chief the selector has declared that pace spearhead Cummins will have a crucial role in the upcoming England-Australia contest.

Rumors had circulated that the veteran bowler might miss the series due to a persistent back stress problem that was still troubling him.

Previous updates from the squad suggested no final decision had been made regarding his involvement, with the extended contest scheduled to begin on November 21 in the WACA.

The selector shared that his recovery is on track and was "optimistic" about his chances of participating.

"We know that the clock is ticking and there are permutations involved, aside from the back issue, but additional elements," Bailey remarked.

"We're encouraged. [We are] really confident that he's going to play a major part. With luck from the opening match. If not, we'll adjust."

Past Concerns

Cummins was ruled out the ODI and T20 games against India and New Zealand last month after examinations confirmed a lower back issue.

Previous incidents include of spinal problems, with recurrences in 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2015-16 causing him to miss multiple domestic campaigns in a limited period.

Cummins stated he would be proactive in his approach in his recovery plan to make the squad for the contest.

The selector indicated that it was unclear if the captain had resumed bowling as part of his comeback but acknowledged it was "getting tight" for him to recover fully for the opener.

Contingency Plans

In case of absence, former captain Steve Smith will assume leadership.

Versatile player Green was withdrawn recently from the national team for their ODI contests against the Asian giants as a safety move because of discomfort in his torso.

He labeled it as a "slight concern and confirmed that he's scheduled to appear in the state-level matches, so will be "in a good place to be ready to bowl."

"Considerable effort has gone into building out the plan for him to participate for the initial game as an all-rounder," Bailey explained.

"His involvement was limited to the starting games regardless. The way he swings the willow in shorter formats, if it causes any delay for 24 more hours, we just made the decision to take a cautious route."
